LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Popular British stand-up comic Peter Kay has canceled his entire upcoming tour of the UK, citing ‘unforeseen family circumstances.’
The tour was due to get underway on April 21st at Birmingham Genting Arena, with an impressive 108 additional shows set for arenas and major venues across the UK, extending through late June 2019.
In a statement posted to his website, Kay wrote: “Due to unforeseen family circumstances, I deeply regret that I am having to cancel all of my upcoming work projects. This, unfortunately, includes my upcoming stand-up tour, Dance For Life shows and any outstanding live work commitments.
“My sincerest apologies. This decision has not been taken lightly and I’m sure you’ll understand my family must always come first.
“I’ve always endeavoured to protect my family’s privacy from the media. I hope that the media and public will continue to respect our privacy at this time. Once again, I’m very sorry.”
The tour would have been his first live run since 2009, when he staged one of the most successful comedy tours in history, playing to more than 1.2 million fans.
Demand for his upcoming tour had also been high, prompting organizers to add multiple (now canceled) shows to the run.
