NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — New Jersey’s favorite son announced that he’s extending his 16-week sold-out residency at Jujamcyn’s Walter Kerr Theatre. Springsteen’s run at the theatre will be extended with additional shows now set for February 28th through June 30th, 2018.
The extended run at the Broadway theatre follows the previously announced 16 weeks of performances that were fully sold out. “Springsteen On Broadway” began previews on October 3rd, 2017 and officially debuted nine days later on October 12th. By the end of his previously announced Broadway dates on February 3rd, Bruce Springsteen will have performed 80 shows at the Walter Kerr Theatre (219 West 48th Street).
A rep for Springsteen said that no additional ticket registrations will be accepted for the new round of dates, but fans who previously registered via Ticketmaster’s ‘Verified Fan’ program will be eligible via digital lottery to receive a code for tickets to the new series.
The show, which consists of re-imagined versions of Springsteen’s extensive catalog, interspersed with personal anecdotes and autobiographical stories, is not the usual Broadway fare, but that hasn’t’ stopped reviewers from gushing about the experience.
“As portraits of artists go, there may never have been anything as real — and beautiful — on Broadway,” a reviewer from the New York Times said.
The show has also proven to be a financial windfall, and according to the Times, grossed $2.3 million after its first week of five performances.
