Weather Spells An Early End To Day One Of Edmonton Folk Music Fest

EDMONTON, Alberta (CelebrityAccess) — Inclement weather brought an early end to the opening night of the Edmonton Folk Music Festival on Thursday.

According to the Edmonton Journal, organizers for the folk festival issued a site evacuation order at approximately 8:30 PM on Thursday night after Environment Canada reported 59 km/h wind gusts, with predictions of 80 km/h winds and thunderstorms.

Headliners Shakey Graves and the The Decemberists were both unable to perform their scheduled sets but were invited back to perform at the event next year.

As well, organizers for the festival announced that refunds would be offered.

"The Edmonton Folk Music Festival had to make a tough call Thursday night after high winds threatened the safety of those on site. In an effort to make things right with Thursday night ticket holders, we are offering the following: 1) 4-pack transferable Thursday night ticket holders make it up by joining us for Friday night’s performance," organizers said in a news release.
