Plans are underway for the Texas Panhandle town of Pampa to turn the abandoned Harris Drug Store, where Guthrie is said to have begun writing songs, into a tribute to the singer.
John Forister, co-chair of the tourism committee of the Greater Pamapa Area Chamber of Commerce, said there's no set timetable but anticipates the center, which will have memorabilia and music from various stages of Guthrie's career, to open within a year.
