Scholz Hits Boston Herald With Libel Suit Over Delp Suicide

BOSTON (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — Boston Guitarist Tom Scholz has filed a libel lawsuit against the Boston Herald in connection to a story the newspaper ran in which former deceased Boston bandmate Brad Delp's ex wife reportedly said she blames Scholz for Delp's suicide. Delp, formerly Boston's frontman, committed suicide in March of 2007.

The suit claims that two Boston Herald reporters, Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa defamed Scholz when they printed "false and fabricated" claims in a story headlined "Pal’s snub made Delp do it: Boston rocker’s ex-wife speaks." According to the Boston Globe, the suit claims that the Boston Herald printed statements against Mr. Scholz that they knew to be false.

"We have filed this complaint in an effort to correct the very substantial defamation by the Boston Herald and its reporters of Tom Scholz at the time when his former Boston bandmate took his own life," Scholz's lawyer Howard Cooper told the Globe. "It is unfortunate that some chose that tragic occasion to sensationalize a false story about Mr. Scholz."

Scholz had previously filed suit against Miki Delp, who swore under oath that she denied making the statements reported in the story, but a final ruling in that case is yet pending. – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
