SAN JOSE, CA (CelebrityAccess MediaWire) — San Jose's Civic Auditorium may be headed for a renovation that will position the aging structure to be a potential competitor with other venues in the local market such as The Warfield and the Fillmore.
Michelle McGuirk, a spokeswoman for the mayor told CelebrityAccess that the city redevelopment committee has voted unanimously to move forward with the project, allocating $10 million dollars to refurb the Auditorium, which was originally built in 1936.
No announcement has been made on a date for submission of bids for the project, but the Mayor has set an optimistic goal of the auditorium hosting music events in 2008.
"We have a great venue that just needs to be renovated," Mayor Chuck Reed told the Jan Jose Mercury News "It can function like the Fillmore in San Francisco." – CelebrityAccess Staff Writers
