The forthcoming Broadway production of "Mamma Mia," with a score by ABBA, has an advance sale of over $20 million from telephone and mail orders. When the box office at New York's Winter Garden opened on Aug. 20, another $250,000 was taken in. Tickets are priced at $100-$55. The musical is set to open Oct. 18.
The musical is about a mother, and her soon-to-be married daughter set on a mythical Greek island with 22 ABBA songs interwoven throughout the story. However, there are no new tunes.
The play is still currently on the stages in London and Toronto. A $10 million renovation was done at New York's Winter Garden; the last play there was "Cats."
