CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — Bad weather and personal issues led to a rocky start for the opening day of Chicago's Lollapalooza festival.
Singer Lorde was in the middle of her headlining set on Thursday evening when the festival grounds were swamped by lightning and a torrential downpour, prompting festival organizers to cancel the remainder of the performance out of safety concerns.
"They've told us we can't play," Lorde later tweeted. "I had the most spectacular show planned for you and I PROMISE I will come back to play it as soon as I can."
She also added that she's "looking into the possibilities of a club show" for her fans in Chicago.
Also derailed by the weather was English rock band Muse. The band later tweeted an apology to fans, and said they hoped to return to the market as "soon as possible."
Another English rocker, Liam Gallagher, also cut his set at Lolla short on Thursday, though, not for weather reasons. Gallagher left the stage in a moment of pique after just four songs. While an official reason for Gallagher's abbreviated set was not offered, he later tweeted an apology, suggesting he had issues with his voice.
"Sorry to the people who turned up for the gig in Chicago lollapalooza had a difficult gig last night which fucked my voice. I'm gutted LG."
New York-based rock band Pretty Reckless also bowed out of their scheduled performance at this year's Lolla, citing weather-related travel delays.
