
The Internet research firm Jupiter Media Metrix has been sold to the much smaller NetRatings of Milpitas, California, in Silicon Valley for $71.2 million.
Jupiter Media Metrix was formed in June 2000 with the merging of Media Metrix and Jupiter Communications. The former monitored Web users to advise advertisers and investors which sites were most popular while the latter specialized in advising corporations about the Net.
Jupiter has been very pro-active in the music industry and sponsored numerous conferences across the country.
