Earth, Wind & Fire will receive the ASCAP
Rhythm & Soul Heritage Award from the American Society of
Composers, Authors and Publishers on June 17 at the
15th Annual ASCAP Rhythm & Soul
Music Awards Dinner at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. The invitation-only
gala will also honor the songwriters and publishers of the top ASCAP
songs on the 2001 R&B/Hip- Hop, Dance, Rap and Reggae charts.
Previous recipients of the ASCAP Rhythm & Soul
Heritage Award have been Chaka Khan and Peabo Bryson.
Ray Charles Receives Fourth Honorary Doctorate
Legendary singer Ray Charles received an honorary doctorate on May 6 from Albany (GA) State University at its 83rd commencement ceremonies for which he also was the
commencement speaker.
To date, Charles has given Albany State University a $1 million donation and plans to give them even more on May 6, when he gets his fourth doctorate. He will also be awarded the school's "Friend of the University Award."
