LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Los Angeles police investigating the fatal shooting of rapper Nipsey Hussle believe his killer was gang-connected but suspect there was a personal motivation in the slaying.

According to the Los Angeles Times, law enforcement sources said they believe Nipsy Hussle was killed by someone he was personally acquainted with and was not related toa gang dispute.

Hussle was shot on Sunday afternoon outside of his clothing shop in South Los Angeles. The assailant was described as a young man who opened fire at close range before fleeing to a nearby getaway car, police told the Times.

Just before the shooting, Hussle tweeted: “Having strong enemies is a blessing.”

The shooting came a day before Hussle was slated to meet with LAPD Chief Michel Moore and Police Commissioner Steve Soboroff to discuss methods to deter gang violence and steer kids away from street crime, the Times reported.

Hussle was no stranger to the world of gangs. In a 2014 interview with YouTube channel Vlad TV, he admitted that as a teenager, he was a member of the Rollin’ 60s, a subset of the ‘Crips’ criminal syndicate.

“It was like living in a war zone, where people die on these blocks and everybody is a little bit immune to it. I guess they call it post-traumatic stress, when you have people that have been at war for such a long time. I think L.A. suffers from that because it’s not normal yet we embrace it like it is after a while,” he told the Times in 2018.
