Miami Sound Machine / Gloria Estefan Musical Director Jorge Casas Dies

MIAMI (CelebrityAccess) Jorge Casas, 69, the Grammy Award-winning musical director and producer for the Miami Sound Machine and for Gloria Estefan, has died, according to a Jan. 31 social media post by Estefan.

“It is with deep sadness that I share with you the passing of Jorge Casas, my friend, my musical director of 34 years, my brother,” Estefan said. “He passed peacefully in his sleep after a beautiful night with his family while on a one week hiatus from his work family, the cast and crew of @onyourfeetbway and we are all mourning the loss of this amazing human being that enriched our lives and was the friend that everyone would want in their corner.”

Casas, who was born in Havana, Cuba, was also the bassist for Miami Sound Machine and Estefan. Further details of his death were not available at press time.

It’s a testament to the man Jorge was that, 30 years after this picture was taken of him holding the Queen of Spades in honor of our infamous band Hearts games, he was still working with the four people closest to him in this picture, @clayostwald, #mikescaglione #teddymulet and me. It’s also fitting that Jorge, being the world’s greatest Beatles fan, left us on the anniversary of their final performance. Safe travels, @fringe21 you will be forever loved and never forgotten!
