BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. (CelebrityAccess) — The Blast is reporting that police have launched a criminal investigation into some allegedly missing property of the late Aretha Franklin.
According to documents obtained by The Blast, the ongoing investigation is being conducted by the Bloomfield Police Department, who are looking into allegations of missing assets, though the nature of those assets was not disclosed.
Per the Blast, the investigation was revealed by legal proceedings from Franklin’s son Edward, who is seeking a court order to force the estate to produce monthly financial documents to the late singer’s heirs.
However, the Estate has demurred, suggesting that producing such information would be deleterious to the ongoing criminal investigation.
The Blast noted that there is also an ongoing dispute between the Estate and one of Franklin’s ex-husbands over music royalties, which the Estate says producing records and materials may “jeopardize these matters and should not be disclosed.”
