LONDON (CelebrityAccess) – In joining together music and sports, ClicknClear, a specialized music rights tech and licensing company for performance sports, has successfully entered into a strategic partnership with Warner Chappell Music (WCM).
This collaboration follows ClicknClear’s prior agreement with Warner Music Group (WMG), extending the licensing of its catalog to the performance sports market. ClicknClear’s platform, utilized by over 1,000 publishers and labels, including industry giants like BMG, Kobalt, Concord, Downtown, Universal Music Publishing (UMG), Sony Music (SME), and several independents, manages an extensive portfolio of 26 million music rights through proprietary technology.
The company recently announced notable deals with the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) and the International Skating Union (ISU). ClicknClear asserts that these partnerships provide the music industry access to approximately $1 billion in additional untapped annual revenue within a total addressable market exceeding $2.4 billion, with further sports collaborations anticipated in 2024.
The FIG and ISU deal designate ClicknClear as the official music licensing platform for these sports globally, encompassing everything from grassroots to elite levels of the sports, allowing athletes and coaches to legally use music for their routines.
For WCM, this collaboration signifies an opportunity to augment income from its catalog while simplifying licensing processes for athletes and sports organizations. The partnership aligns with ClicknClear’s mission to establish a seamless relationship between the music industry and choreographed performance sports.
Chantal Epp, Founder and CEO of ClicknClear, expressed confidence in the strength of their technology platform and the positive momentum behind their business. “To be able to simultaneously announce partnerships with one of the world’s most successful music publishers and two prestigious global choreographed performance sports is a strong validation of our technology platform, the quality and dedication of our team, and the momentum behind our business.”
Epp added that the deals mark progress in ClicknClear’s goal of building a “frictionless relationship” between the music industry and choreographed performance sports.
Daniel Lang, VP at Warner Chappell, “We know that athletes use our songwriters’ music to inspire them as they perform. This partnership with ClicknClear will make it easier to ensure our writers are appropriately remunerated for their work wherever it is used around the world and reduce cases of copyright infringement in sport.”
This development follows ClicknClear’s 2023 agreement with the US National Federation of State High School Associations, reinforcing music licensing for use in dance, gymnastics, marching band, choir, and cheer.
Warner Chappell Music continues to make notable strides in the industry, recently forming partnerships with Small World Records and singer-songwriter Dido. The publisher’s extensive catalog encompasses works by various artists, and its leadership, headed by Guy Moot and Carianne Marshall, recently extended their contracts through March 31, 2028.
