TOWNVILLE, PA (CelebrityAccess) — Country music legend Jeannie Seely was briefly hospitalized while attending an event honoring her musical legacy and local connections in her home state of Pennsylvania.
According to a statement from her publicist, Seely, who is 84, had returned to Pennsylvania for a the unveiling of a sign at the Townville Fire Station where she made one of her first-ever public performances.
For the unveiling, Seely was joined by the Bluegrass group Cutter & Cash and The Kentucky Grass, who performed a rendition of Seely’s “Farm In Pennsyltucky,” before joining Seely and Pennsylvania musician Conrad Fisher to perform a brand new song, “Take Me Back To Pennsylvania” for the first time.
“I’m so thrilled about this sign,” said Seely during the ceremony, “and let me say I appreciate so much my classmates, my graduating class of 1958. They’re the ones who originally put the signs up for me. Since they were deteriorating, it was decided they needed to be replaced. I’m so grateful to Cutter, Cash and their group for putting this together and making it happen.”
Unfortunately, the homecoming wasn’t all sign unveilings and Bluegrass for the 84-year-old Seely, who was subsequently hospitalized after suffering an attack of acute diverticulitis and dehydration.
“It had not crossed my mind to visit a hospital on my trip home, but when it became necessary, it was yet another opportunity to experience Pennsylvania hospitality,” Seely noted. “I could not have received better care or more respect than I did at St. Clare Hospital in Pittsburgh or the courtesy shown at Pittsburgh International Airport. The kindness is appreciated and I’m very proud to call the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania my birthplace.”
She has since been released from the hospital and has returned to her home in Nashville where she is recovering from the medical ordeal.
“It’s always wonderful when I get a chance to come back and I never want to miss the opportunity to tell everybody here that I appreciated their support all through my career,” Seely added.
