NASHVILLE (CelebrityAccess) – Two musical forces, legendary Southern rock group The Outlaws and hitmaking country band BlackHawk, have joined hands once again to announce the 7th annual Freeborn Jam. This charitable concert, slated for June 1 at The City Winery in Nashville, aims to benefit the Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center and MusiCares.

Henry Paul, a founding member of both The Outlaws and BlackHawk, is delighted to carry on the tradition that supports a cause close to his heart. The motivation behind this annual event stems from a personal tragedy in 2001 when Van Stephenson, Paul’s friend and BlackHawk bandmate, succumbed to melanoma. In his memory, BlackHawk established the Van Stephenson Memorial Cancer Research Fund.

“The survival rate for people who contract melanoma, the cancer that took Van’s life, has gone from no chance of survival to an 80% survival rate in the last ten years,” explains Paul. “That is why we do what we can to help.”

To date, the Van Stephenson Memorial Cancer Research Fund has generously donated over $500,000 to Vanderbilt for cancer research and nearly $150,000 to MusiCares.

Tickets for the seventh annual Freeborn Jam are set to go on sale this Friday (February 16) at 3 pm CT, available via citywinery.com.

For over 30 years, BlackHawk has captivated audiences with a unique sense of harmony, selling over seven million albums and delivering distinctive country radio hits in the ’90s. Today, they continue to honor their past while forging a future that elevates their music and harmony to new heights.

The Outlaws, with a musical journey spanning more than 40 years, embody a commitment to the soul of Southern rock. Celebrating triumphs and enduring tragedies, they remain influential and beloved. The Outlaws have recently returned with new music, a renewed focus, and an uncompromising mission bound by history, harmony, and the open road. It’s not just about a band; it’s about a brotherhood defined by pride and respect for their own legacy while refusing to be confined by the past.

As the countdown to the Freeborn Jam begins, music enthusiasts can anticipate an electrifying performance that not only celebrates the timeless tunes of both bands but also contributes to the fight against cancer.
