LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — Disney’s animated family fare “Frozen 2” skated its way to the top of the worldwide box office, debuting to $127.0 million North American opening, according to estimates compiled by Comscore.
“Frozen 2” revives the characters Anna, Elsa, Kristoff, Olaf and Sven from the original Frozen for a new adventure. The film features the voices of Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Evan Rachel Wood, Josh Gad, Jonathan Groff, Sterling K. Brown and is directed by Jennifer Lee & Chris Buck.
Internationally, the film earned $223.2M in 37 material territories for a worldwide opening weekend of a stunning $350M.
Last week’s box office champion “Ford V. Ferrari” slid to second place over the weekend, adding in $16.0 million in North American cinemas and $14.7M in 43 material territories for a worldwide weekend take of a cool $30.7M. The weekend’s results bring “Ford V. Ferrari’s” global cume to $103.8M.
Also making its debut this weekend at #3 was Sony’s Fred Rogers biopic “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood” which opened to $13.5 million in North America.
“Beautiful Day” features Tom Hanks as Fred Rogers, with a cast that also includes Christine Lahti, Chris Cooper, Wendy Makkena, Enrico Colantoni, Tammy Blanchard, Matthew Rhys, Susan Kelechi Watson and is directed by Marielle Heller.
