BERLIN (CelebrityAccess) — Ukranian hip-hop artist Alyona Alyona won the Anchor Award for best emerging artist of the year at this year’s Reeperbahn.

Alyona Alyona was chosen as the winner from a group of six nominees for the prize that also included Celeste (GB), punk-pop women’s band The Hormones (CN), post-punk trio DRAHLA (GB), songwriter Moyka (NO) and dream pop duo Feng Suave (NL).

Alyona Alyona was selected by a jury panel that included Tony Visconti, Bob Rock, Peaches, Kate Nash, Arnim Teutoburg-Weiß and the Australian radio presenter Zan Rowe, who attended concerts by the six nominees for the award over two nights.

“I got out of my chair, stood up, almost danced and took videos which I actually don’t think I’ve ever done before. I didn’t understand a word she was singing but it came out so powerful. It really blew my mind. And most importantly I would buy her record in a heartbeat,” Bob Rock said of Alyone Alyone’s performance.

“Beyond language barriers, Alyona Alyona’s songs were stuck in my head long after I saw her perform. Incredible rhythm, hooks, and an amazing presence,” added Zan Rowe.

The awards ceremony took place on Sept. 21 as part of the Reeperbahn Festival and music conference in Hamburg, Germany.
