NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Larry Mestel’s Primary Wave Music Publishing announced the acquisition of the publishing rights of iconic rock band Boston’s self-titled debut album from the band’s former manager Paul Ahern/Pure Songs.
The album, released in 1976, became the best selling album in the U.S. that year and has since sold more than 25 million copies worldwide.
The album includes the band’s hit “More Than A Feeling, as well as “Foreplay/Long Time,” “Smokin’,” and “Peace of Mind.”
Primary Wave says it will “work closely” with Tom Scholz, the principal songwriter for the band. Scholz is widely credited as the progenitor of the “Boston sound” and continues to actively tour. As well, the band remains a staple of classic rock radio playlists, has sold more than 75 million records worldwide
“I have been a fan of the band and Tom Scholz since the debut album, BOSTON, in 1976,” says Lawrence Mestel, CEO & Founder, Primary Wave Music Publishing.
“Tom created some of the most memorable rock songs of all time and we are excited to welcome him to the Primary Wave family,” Mestel added.
The deal is the latest in a series of high profile acquisitions for Primary Wave, that have included multi-million dollar deals with the Estate of Whitney E. Houston and Culture Club.
