PHILADELPHIA (CelebrityAccess) – Five people were injured in a stampede at Philadelphia’s Roots Picnic Saturday (June 1) after a false gun scare caused concertgoers to flee Fairmount Park during 21 Savage’s set.
The chaos reportedly started after a fistfight broke out near the stage and sparked concern that there was an active shooter in the crowd. As word quickly spread, hundreds of people fled Philly’s Fairmount Park in a panic.
Reports have indicated that four of the five people injured were underage, with one suffering a broken leg.
Police arrived on the scene soon afterward, however, were unable to locate a shooter or recover a weapon and Roots Picnic reopened within an hour.
Neither festival organizers or the Roots have commented on the incident, although Questlove retweeted someone who wrote: “They were NOT shooting at Roots Picnic.”
