LONDON (CelebrityAccess) – Spotify global head of publishing Adam Parness is leaving the company. The news of his departure was first published by Music Business Worldwide, reporting his resignation is effective June 3.

Parness joined Spotify in 2017 after previous roles in publisher relations at Pandora and content acquisition at Amazon. During his tenure with Spotify, Parness played a key role in the industry-wide support for the signing of the US Music Modernization Act, and, internally, led the charge for the addition of songwriter and producer credits to Spotify’s platform.

Parness’ decision comes amid strained relations between Spotify and the songwriting and publishing community after the global streaming service (along with Google, Pandora and Amazon) recently appealed against the Copyright Royalty Board’s decision to boost U.S. streaming royalties for songwriters and music publishers by 44 percent, a move that prompted uproar across the industry.

In a note announcing his resignation, Parness reportedly told music publishers that it was “with mixed emotions” that he was exiting the streaming firm given that he took the position in order to continue his “career mission of advancing the livelihood of songwriters, artists, and producers”.
