NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) Ashley Massaro, 39, a former wrestler for the WWE, died in New York yesterday, although details of her death are still unclear.
Massaro’s body was brought into the Suffolk County Medical Examiner’s office in New York, sources told The Blast, and law enforcement sources said they responded to a “rescue call” at 5:23 to her home in Smithtown. She was transported to a local hospital where she passed away, according to the sources.
The dispatch audio shows that officers originally responded to a report of an unconscious female and administered CPR on the way to the hospital.
Police apparently do not believe foul play was committed and the death is under investigation.
“We are saddened to learn of the tragic death of former WWE Superstar Ashley Massaro,” World Wrestling Entertainment said in a statement. “WWE offers its condolences to Ashley’s family and friends.”
Massaro won the “WWE Diva Search” in 2005 and became a valet for WWE Tag Team Champions Paul London and Brian Kendrick, and she appeared in Playboy in 2007. She competed in “Survivor: China” that year but was voted off the island after only six days.
Massaro retired from wrestling in 2008 but mounted a comeback in pro wrestling in 2017.
