TORONTO (CelebrityAccess) — Canadian neoclassical composer and pianist Alexandra Stréliski took top honors at the 2019 Indie Awards, winning album of the year for her latest release Inscape.
Other artists taking home top prizes from this year’s Indie Awards awards included Calgary-based country singer-songwriter Lindi Ortega, who won Artist of the Year) and folk/bluegrass ensemble The Dead South, who took home the prize for Group of the Year.
Canadian EDM duo DVBBS won the prize for Single of the Year for this 2018 hit IDWK, featuring Blackbear.
Performers for the night included Born Ruffians, The Elwins and LA FORCE took to the stage, along with event sponsor Jim Beam’s Talent Search winner Christee Palace.
The 2019 Indie Awards were held as part of Canadian Music Week, music festival and conference which takes place in and around Toronto. This year, CMW features 7 nights of performances, over 800 showcasing bands at more than 40 live music venues in downtown Toronto.
The indie awards were sponsored by Jim Beam and the Toronto-based alternative media company and broadcaster Indie88.
