LOS ANGELES (CelebrityAccess) — “Crank that” rapper Soulja Boy has been sentenced to 8 months in jail for violating the terms of his probation.
According to CNN, Soulja, whose real name is DeAndre Cortez Way, was hit with a 240-day sentence during a court hearing on Tuesday.
Way has been incarcerated and held without bond after he was arrested in early April for failing to complete the community service requirement of the terms of his probation for attempting to falsify evidence to show he had completed it.
As well, police in February launched an investigation after Way’s ex-girlfriend alleged that he tied her up and held her captive in his garage. While investigating the allegation, police reported they found ammunition in his residence which is also a violation of the terms of his probation, TMZ reported.
Way has been incarcerated for 20 days and in light of that the judge gave him 40 days credit on his sentence for time served, CNN reported.
The judge also reinstated Way’s required 265 days of community service.
“My client is very thankful to the judge that he was sentenced to only 240 days because the judge was initially contemplating a sentence of two years,” Fred G. Minassian, Way’s attorney told CNN.
“Once he’s released, he’s committed to following all the orders and directives of the court and of the probation department,” Minassian added.
