INDIO, CA (CelebrityAccess) — Ariana Grande was pelted with a lemon during her headlining performance for the second weekend of Goldenvoice’s Coachella Music & Arts Festival.
Fan-captured footage of the incident shows Grande moving down an extension of the stage that extended into the audience when some blaggard hurled the fruity piece of musical criticism in her direction.
Fortunately, the offending fruit appeared to do no damage, and she, trooper-like, continued her performance both unabated, and with aplomb.
She did address the incident later in the performance, telling the crowd: “that’s ’cause one of y’all threw a lemon at me, shit.”
While Grande seemingly escaped injury, objects hurled by the audience can present a serious hazard to performers. In 2013, Toots Hibbert was struck by a bottle during a performance with his band The Maytals at the River Rock Festival in Richmond.
Hibbert was injured in the incident, and forced to cancel several months of performances, ultimately taking a three-year hiatus from the stage.
The hurler, William C Lewis, was sentenced to six months in jail, despite a letter from Hibbert to the presiding judge asking for clemency.
