NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) Roger Waters joined former Pink Floyd bandmate Nick Mason onstage for a song last night at the Beacon Theatre in New York; the two former bandmates had only been onstage together twice in 38 years prior to the moment.
Waters joined Mason for the band’s classic song “Set the Controls for the Heart of the Sun” at the April 18 show. It is the first North American tour for Nick Mason’s Saucerful of Secrets, which is dedicated to performing earlier material from Floyd. Waters stepped away from the mic for a bit to play the gong.
It wasn’t a complete surprise. Mason said it was possible that Waters would join the drummer on an appearance, saying last December that “I’m not holding my breath on that. We can worry about guest stars when we are a bit further down the line” but added that he had talked to both Waters and Floyd ex-mate David Gilmour before launching the tour. “I thought that would be good manners. I don’t think it was a matter of getting permission or anything, but what was great was that they were really encouraging.”

The current tour runs through April 22 and marks the first time Mason has performed in North America since Floyd came through in support of its 1994 album The Division Bell.
