WESTERLY, RI (CelebrityAccess) — A Connecticut man is in police custody on Wednesday after crashing a stolen car into the gates of Taylor Swift’s estate in Rhode Island.
According to the Hartford Courant, 19-year-old Shykeim Lewis was being held on $10,000 bail on charges that include receiving stolen goods valued over $10,000, obstruction of a police officer and eluding police after the crash, which occurred at about 1 a.m. on Wednesday morning.
Three other teens from Hartford were in the car but were not arrested but were treated for injuries that we described as “not life-threatening,” the Courant reported
According to police, the fact that the gate belonged to Taylor Swift was just a coincidence.
“They had no idea where they were,” said Westerly Police Chief Shawn Lacey told the Courant. “They were just fleeing the police.”
Police said the car, a 2018 Nissan Altima, was allegedly stolen in Hartford on Tuesday and taken on a joyride to Westerly, where Swift maintains a residence. There, the car ended up in a police chase with an officer from Hopkinton, R.I., leading to the crash.
Only afterward did police discover that the car was stolen. An image taken at the scene shows the car wedged halfway through an iron security gate.
