NEW YORK (CelebrityAccess) — Mick Jagger is set to undergo heart valve replacement surgery in New York this week, according to The Drudge Report.

The story, which Drudge attributed to unnamed sources, comes just days after the Rolling Stones postponed their upcoming tour, citing health issues for Jagger.

“I’m devastated for having to postpone the tour, but I will be working very hard to be back on stage as soon as I can,” Jagger wrote on Twitter after the postponement was announced. “Once again, huge apologies to everyone.”

The Drudge Report story did not elaborate on the nature of the heart valve replacement, which can be fairly low impact procedures that involve a stent being inserted via a catheter. However, some forms of heart surgery, including coronary bypass and aortic valve replacement, are more intensive, with a much longer recovery period.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, open heart surgery typically requires hospitalization of about 10 days and requires 4 to 6 weeks of home recovery after leaving the hospital, whereas a stent often has patients back on their feet within a week.
