CHICAGO (CelebrityAccess) — Singer R Kelly has been released from a Chicago jail after an unknown person paid more than $US161,000 in child support to an ex-wife, police said.
According to ABC News, Sam Randall, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office, said that the source of the payment that allowed Kelly to leave incarceration was unclear, noting that the name section on the bond slip was not filled out.
Randall characterized the lack of information about the bond payment as “pretty rare.” “Typically that section of the form is filled out,” Randall told ABC News.
Celebrity website TMZ, which cited sources close to Kelly, claimed that the bond was paid unidentified benefactor and that Kelly was met outside of the jail building by “screaming fans.”
“I promise we’re gonna straighten all this out,” Kelly told the crowd, per TMZ.
Kelly has faced legal issues on multiple fronts in recent weeks. Before he was jailed for unpaid child support, he was incarcerated and charged with 10 counts of sexual assault, including against three teenaged girls.
Kelly pleaded not guilty to the assault charges in February and was released on a $US1 million bond, which was paid by an unnamed female friend.
R. Kelly has since vehemently denied the allegations of sexual abuse.
