PLEASANT PARK (CelebrityAccess) — When the masked DJ/Producer Marshmello took the stage earlier on February 2nd for a virtual concert inside of the popular game Fortnite, the event was attended by

“Fortnite recently had two record highs for peak concurrent players,” Fortnite developer Epic Games told The Verge in a statement. “On February 2nd, Fortnite had its best event day ever with 10.7 million players showing up for the Marshmello concert.”

While impressive in and of itself, the numbers are not fully reflective of how many people likely watched the show. As The Verge noted, if you count the number of viewers who tuned in outside of the game via streaming services such as YouTube and Twitch, the number of viewers is much larger. The official recap of the event posted on YouTube has racked up almost 27 million views.

While the appearance was a promotional coup for Marshmello, it also appears to have been a boon for Epic Games. The company reported that on February 16th, the game saw its largest regular day, with more than 7.6 million concurrent players.

Epic Games previous record for participation in a one-off event for the game was back in November for their ‘butterfly’ event, which drew more than 8 million players.
