(CelebrityAccess) – BMI, the performing rights organization that handles Rihanna’s music publishing, has sent the Trump campaign a cease-and-desist letter preventing it from using the singer’s music, according to Rolling Stone.
Under the terms of an agreement between BMI and the Trump campaign known as the “Donald J. Trump for President, Inc. Political Entities License Agreement,” the campaign has previously been allowed to pay a blanket license fee to BMI in order to use any songs BMI administers at its events. It now appears that BMI has amended Rihanna’s contract so that her music is no longer included in that deal.
The letter, which was reportedly sent to the associate vice president and the director of operations for Donald J. Trump for President, Inc., as well as a rep for Red Curve Solutions, the company that serves as treasurer for the campaign, said: “…any performance of Rihanna’s musical works by the Trump Campaign from this date forward is not authorized by BMI.”
Earlier this week, Rihanna sent her own cease-and-desist letter to the campaign after learning that her song “Don’t Stop The Music” was being played during a Trump rally in Tennessee. Upon learning this news, Rhianna Tweeted a response to reporter Philip Rucker saying: “Not for much longer…me nor my people would ever be at or around one of those tragic rallies, so thanks for the heads up philip!”
