(CelebrityAccess) Four former members of Cameo have reportedly filed a lawsuit against the band’s recognizable frontman, Lawrence Blackmon, claiming he has squirreled away about $100,000 in royalties that he promised to share.
Nathan Leftenant, Arnett Leftenant, Jeryl Bright and Gregory Johnson have filed the complaint, claiming that Blackmon was collecting royalties on behalf of the band in 2010, gathering $103,005.30 and never distributed the money, according to The Blast. He also started a Las Vegas residency in 2015 under the Cameo moniker, apparently without permission, and the former bandmates claim they deserve 80 percent of the profits from the performances and other appearances using the Cameo trademark.
Cameo, led by Blackmon’s unique presence, had some hits in the 80s none of which were more iconic than the No. 1 hit “Word Up.”
