LIVERPOOL, UK (CelebrityAccess) — The Liverpool Football Club has been granted temporary planning permission to host music concerts and major entertainment events at Anfield Stadium for the next two years.

As part of the plans, LFC can host up to six events per year at the 54,000-capacity stadium, with events expected to kick off starting in 2019.

The license granted by the city council will allow events to take place at Anfield during six week period starting in May and extending through mid-June.

The application submitted by the club forms part of its plan to offer to expand entertainment offerings at the stadium beyond its traditional fare of sporting events, the LFC said.

The Club was forced to resubmit the application to address concerns from local residents over noise from the concerts, anti-social behavior from concert-goers and additional congestion. The club addressed concerns by reducing the number of planned events for the license and by promising to appoint a residents’ liaison officer and pay for closed-circuit television surveillance.

A second application to host extra sporting events on dates outside the regular football calendar was rejected in August.

Andy Hughes, chief operating officer at LFC, said: “We would like to thank everyone who has been involved throughout this planning process and, importantly, the local residents who provided valuable feedback at our recent drop-in sessions.

“Expanding the use of the stadium for concerts and other events will help draw additional visitors to the local area and city, provide more local jobs, increase revenue for local businesses and promote Anfield as a tourist destination.

“We will now work proactively with event promoters and Liverpool City Council to plan events while ensuring we’re all working together to minimise the impact to those who live in the local area. We are also committed to making further improvements to our match day operations and continue our engagement with local residents, councilors and other key stakeholders.”
