TORONTO, ON (CelebrityAccess) – Jacob Hoggard, lead singer of Canadian pop-rock band Hedley, has been arrested and charged with two counts of sexual assault and one count of sexual interference.
The 34-year-old turned himself in to Toronto police on Monday.
According to a joint statement released by Toronto police and the Peel Regional Police, the alleged assaults occurred on three separate dates in 2016 and involved two different women, one of which was under the age of 16.
Hoggard’s arrest follows a four-month investigation into the singer, which began back in February after a number of women came forward accusing him of sexual misconduct and the hashtag #OutHedley2K18 sparked a public outcry.
In the midst of the controversy, the band, which was just beginning a 32-date cross-Canada tour at the time, was dropped by their management company and forced to withdraw from the Juno Awards as various radio stations stopped playing their music and other acts refused to open for them on the road. The group subsequently announced an indefinite hiatus, citing a need for time to work on their “personal relationships” and who they “are as individuals.”
