NEW YORK, NY (CelebrityAccess) – Rapper Belly (real name: Ahmad Balshe) launched a campaign over the weekend aimed at raising awareness and funds in support of the global immigrant and refugee crisis.
Though he was not on site during the End Family Separation Rally & March at Foley Square in New York Saturday, his team handed out more than 200 special-edition T-shirts emblemized with the word “Immigrant” on them in red letters.
Belly, who’s roots are Middle Eastern, said in a statement: “As an immigrant myself I feel as though immigration is a topic that need my support and yours as well with so much happening. It’s our job as public figures and more importantly as humans to bring attention to these causes. With your help we can create a platform and bring awareness to help immigrants thrive and know they can succeed too.”
The T-shirt is also now available for purchase for $28 via Belly’s official website. 100% of the artist proceeds from the sale of the shirt –– a minimum of $7 per shirt sold –– will be donated to the “American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) who are defending the civil and legal rights of immigrants and refugees worldwide, and the International Rescue Committee (IRC) who support vulnerable children and refugee families around the world.
