LONDON (CelebrityAccess) — Ticketmaster UK reported that some of their customer data has been exposed in a data breach after it identified a malicious code in a software hosted by a third-party supplier.
In a statement on Wednesday, Ticketmaster UK said that the compromised system was discovered on a customer support product hosted by Inbenta Technologies on Saturday and the affected systems were immediately shut down on all Ticketmaster websites.
Less than 5% of Ticketmaster’s global customer base was affected, but customers in North America were not affected, the company said.
However, the breach could have exposed “personal or payment information” for customers who were affected, Ticketmaster UK said.
“Information which may have been compromised includes: name, address, email address, telephone number, payment details and Ticketmaster login details,” Ticketmaster UK said.
Ticketmaster noted that they have contacted the customers whose data may have been exposed, which includes UK customers who purchased, or attempted to purchase, tickets between February and June 23, 2018, as well as well as international customers who purchased, or attempted to purchase, tickets between September 2017 and June 23, 2018
As a precautionary measure, Ticketmaster recommends that all customers reset their passwords and the company has extended a free 12-month identity monitoring service to customers who were affected by the breach.
News of the breach comes at a particularly tense time for many in the industry, following the high profile compromise of Ticketfly’s services last month. The attack on Ticketfly shut the service down for more than a week, leaving many venues and event producers bereft of their primary ticketing platform.
