PHILADELPHIA, PA (CelebrityAccess) — A large crowd of supporters who gathered at the Criminal Justice Center were disappointed on Monday after a court hearing for rapper Meek Mill ended without a decision.
According to the Philadelphia Tribune, Mill’s supporters had been hoping that Judge Genece Brinkley would dismiss charges against the rapper.
The Pennsylvania Supreme Court has ordered that Brinkley make a ruling within sixty days, dating from April 24.
Brinkley will need to reach a decision by June 30, the Tribune said.
Mill’s lawyer Brian McMonagle said the District Attorney’s office is in agreement in the case and said a hearing was unnecessary.
“It’s fundamentally unfair, it’s an experience the likes of which I never seen before and I’ve only ever seen it in this case,” McMonagle told the Tribune.
Mill, whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams, was sentenced to four years in prison after being found to have violated the terms of his probation stemming from his 2008 conviction on drug and firearm charges. However, the details of Mill’s 2008 arrest come under scrutiny. In April, the Philadelphia district attorney petitioned Judge Brinkley for Mill’s release, citing credibility issues with the arresting officer in his initial 2008 conviction.
Brinkley herself became a controversial figure after she was alleged to have asked Mill for custom-made recordings and was reported to have attended a charity event staged by Mill without recusing herself from the case.
Mill said after the hearing that he was not surprised by the outcome.
“I came into this situation today not really thinking anything good was going to happen in that courtroom,” Mill told the Tribune. “It was what I thought it was.”
