NEW YORK, NY (CelebrityAccess) – The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that 50 Cent is currently under investigation by the NYPD for allegedly threatening a police officer on Instagram.
In the post, which went live on Wednesday but has since been deleted, 50 Cent reportedly used the phrase “Get the strap” (strap being a reference to a gun) in a comment which was interpreted as being directed toward NYPD Deputy Inspector Emmanuel Gonzalez.
In a statement issued Thursday, the NYPD said: “There is a formal complaint on file for aggravated harassment and detectives are investigating.”
According to the rapper’s rep, 50 Cent recently filed a trademark on the phrase ‘Get the strap,’ and has been publically posting the slogan across all of his social media platforms.
The statement went on to say: “Taken in its proper context, the specific post in question was neither intended as, nor could reasonably be interpreted as, a threat or call to violence against anyone. So the record is clear, Mr. Jackson does not condone or promote the use of violence against anyone. ‘Get The Strap’ is a playful phrase used by Mr. Jackson to punctuate absurd and outrageous situations.”
