STOCKHOLM (Reuters) – Swedish DJ and music producer Avicii, who was found dead in Oman last month at the age of 28, will be given a private funeral.

“The Bergling family has now confirmed that the funeral will be private, in the presence of the people who were closest to Tim,” his Swedish publicist Ebba Lindqvist said in a statement, released on Tuesday.

Avicii, whose real name was Tim Bergling, had in just a few short years, become one of the biggest stars in the world of dance music on the strength of hits such as hits such as “Wake Me Up” and “Hey Brother”.

However, in 2016, he abruptly announced that he was retiring from touring to focus on music production and his health. He had a history of health issues, including pancreatitis, and in 2012, shortly before the release of his debut album, he had his appendix and gallbladder removed.

While a cause of death has not been officially announced, statements by his family following his death appeared to suggest that he took his own life, stating that he was struggling “with thoughts about meaning, life, happiness” and that he “could not go on any longer.”

As well, TMZ reported that sources with knowledge of the matter said that he killed himself with shards of broken glass.
