EL PASO, TX (CelebrityAccess) — Organizers for the EDM-themed Sun City Music Festival announced that the 2018 edition of the event had been canceled.
Produced by Disco Donnie Presents and SMG, the two-day fest had been staged on Labor Day weekend in El Paso’s festival grounds at Ascarate Park. The festival featured three stages of dance music, with both internationally recognized and local artists.
The cancellation of the festival was announced via the event’s social media:
“Each year, the Disco and SMG teams work diligently to ensure every single time you enter the gates of Sun City Music Festival, the best possible experience awaits you. Throughout the calendar year, the SCMF team works extremely hard to meet this momentous task with rigorous standards in place.
“Unfortunately, we don’t believe that goal can be accomplished in 2018. As a result, we’re sad to say Sun City Music Festival will not be held this Labor Day Weekend. We apologize the announcement took so long, but we wanted to make sure we had exhausted all the options to make SCMF possible.
“On behalf of the entire SCMF family, we hope to return in 2019 and greatly appreciate all of your support over the past years. Thanks for the memories that will last a lifetime!”
Organizers for the event did not offer a reason for the cancellation. Veronica Myers, director of the El Paso County Parks and Recreation, told local Fox affiliate KFOX that she was unaware of any issues that might have prompted the cancellation.
“We’ve always had a great working relationship with them and we’re sad they aren’t coming this year,” she told KFOX. “But, we look forward to hosting them again in 2019.”
Myers added that the festival had been boon for the local economy, and said that in 2016 and 2017, the revenue for the county from parking fees, entry fees and park rental feels totaled almost $90,000.
