Nielsen Music Report: Record Store Day 2018 Yields Record Breaking Numbers
1794 0

(CelebrityAccess) – Nielsen Music has released its report on this year’s Record Store Day, and that numbers are pretty staggering.

The 11th annual edition, which took place on April 21, yielded 733,000 vinyl albums sold in the U.S. the week ending April 26th (that’s up 190 percent compared to the prior week), with 580,000 of those albums being sold by independent retailers. The numbers mark the biggest week for vinyl album sales outside of the Christmas season since Nielsen Music began tracking sales in 1991.

This year’s top-selling Record Store Day-exclusive album sold by indie retailers was Bruce Springsteen’s red vinyl Greatest Hits while David Bowie’s Welcome to the Blackout (Live London ’78), and Neil Young’s Tonight’s the Night – Live at the Roxy followed close behind.

The top-selling Record Store Day-exclusive single was Led Zeppelin’s double-sided 7-inch “Friends”/“Rock and Roll.” The release marked the band’s first release for Record Store Day.

Until next year!
