JOHANNESBURG (CelebrityAccess) – Billboard Biz has reported that Global Citizen Festival––the music advocacy event curated by Coldplay‘s Chris Martin––is reportedly looking to expand into Johannesburg before the end of 2018.
The organization, which Martin joined in 2015, has strong ties to South Africa as it previously worked with Nelson Mandela’s grandson, Kweku.
Kweku spoke about his grandfather’s incredible legacy and contributions to human rights advocacy at the 2017 Global Citizen Festival in New York City on September 23rd
Currently, Global Citizen hosts an annual festival in New York, however the organization added additional events in Mumbai, India in 2016 and Hamburg, Germany in 2017.
In an attempt to further the spirit of advocacy, all attendees to Global Citizen events are required to earn their tickets through the completion of social actions such as signing petitions or contacting legislators, which can be recorded through the festival’s app.
It is the goal of the organization to bring global poverty to an end by 2030. For more information on Global Citizen Festival visit: www.globalcitizen.org
